The highly coveted and prestigious Emmerich Smola Prize celebrates its 10-year anniversary: Six internationally-acclaimed young singers, already appearing on renowned stages and prizewinners of major international competitions, have been selected to present two bravura arias in a televised and streamed concert with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Orchestra. These 6 singers come together 5 days before the concert to prepare musically with the conductor and be part of a documentary film by Ute Hoffarth about the singing competition, to be broadcast on the SWR TV on February 16, 2025 at 9:45 am CEST. The program will be broadcast live on www.sonostream.tv.

An audience prize will be awarded on the 25th at the conclusion of the concert, and one male singer and one female singer will each be awarded a prize in the amount of €10.000.

The singers will be accompanied by the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie conducted by Enrico Delamboye.

About Emmerich Smola:

Maestro Emmerich Smola was the founder and chief conductor of Radio Orchestra Kaiserslautern (founded in 1948 by the French military government) which due to a restructuring was merged with the Unterhaltungs Orchestra Koblenz (founded in 1951) and became the Südwest Rundfunkorchester in 1987. He was also the Music Department Chief of the Südwestrundfunk Kaiserslautern studios.

According to the SWR , Smola should holds a world record in terms of number and variety of recorded music: over 18,000 different titles can be found in the archives of SWR - from baroque to contemporary music, opera and operetta to jazz and musicals.

The Emmerich Smola School of Music of Kaiserslautern is named after him as well as the Emmerich Smola School of Music Hall in Kaiserslautern, as well as the Emmerich Smola School Award for the promotion of young musicians.
