South Korean soprano Sumi Hwang is the Grand Prize Winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition for Voice 2014, and is on the path of a spectacular career.
On Thursday March 26 at 7:30pm she makes her recital debut at Theater Bonn with legendary pianist Helmut Deutsch, and sonostream.tv is thrilled to be able to offer this program live on sonostream.tv in HD!
Since September 2014 Sumi has been a member of the ensemble at Theater Bonn in Germany, where she has celebrated great success as Pamina in Mozart's Magic Flute, as Leila in Bizet's the Pearl Fishers, and as Almirena in G.F. Händel's Rinaldo. Future roles in Bonn include Liu in Puccini's Turandot, and Fiordiligi in Mozarts's Cosi Fan Tutte. In concert she has appeared with the Munich Rundfunkorchester, the Seoul Philharmonic, the SWR Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, and has given recitals at the prestigious Phillips Collection in Washington DC with Jonas Vitaud, in Mumbia, Luxembourg, to name a few.
Helmut Deutsch studied piano, composition and musicology in his home city of Vienna and was awarded the “Vienna Composition Prize” for his creative achievements. From the time he was a student, he specialized in chamber music and Lied Accompanying and has since played for many world renowned instrumentalists, involving himself in all forms of chamber music. His career as a Lied accompanist began with the famous soprano Irmgard Seefried. Mr. Deutsch has since played for such renowned singers as Juliane Banse, Barbara Bonney, Grace Bumbry, Ileana Cotrubas, Diana Damrau, Brigitte Fassbaender, Angelika Kirchschlager, Genia Kühmeier, Christiane Oelze, Ofelia Sala, Rita Streich, Ruth Ziesak; Olaf Bär, Ian Bostridge, Matthias Goerne, Dietrich Henschel, Wolfgang Holzmayr, Jonas Kaufmann, Thomas Moser, Mauro Peter, Christoph Pregardien, Thomas Quasthoff, Andreas Schmidt, Bo Skovhus, Klaus Florian Vogt, Michael Volle, Bernd Weikl, as well as many others. For twelve years he was the regular partner of Hermann Prey. Helmut Deutsch is a frequent guest at important music centers and festivals throughout the world and appears on many prize-winning recordings. From 1967 – 1979 he taught at the Vienna University of Music. From 1986 - 2014 Mr. Deutsch was professor for Lied at the Music University in Munich and is still guest professor in Frankfurt am Main. He regularly gives masterclasses in all Europe and in the Far East.
