Puccini's La Boheme was premiered on February 1, 2025 at the Teatro Regio in Italy under the baton of Arturo Toscanini, and today remains a core work of the operatic repertoire.
Puccini’s tragic tale of love and death is the focus of Sunday’s Sonostream livestream from the Malmö Opera, in a compelling production that features Irish director Orpha Phelan and Romania’s Christian Badea conducting the Malmö Opera Orchestra.
Olesya Golovneva is Mimi, the young heroine who sets on love as the cure for consumption, only to die in the arms of her paramour. It is another feather in the musical cap of the up-and coming Russian soprano, adding to her string of successes in important European theaters.
Swedish tenor Joachim Baeckstroem brings passion and verve to the role of the young artist Rodolfo, Mimi’s lover, while Marinski Theater member Vladislav Sulimsky, as Marcello, Hungary’s Miklos Sebestyen as Colline and Maria Fontosh as Musetta embellish the cast in strong supporting roles.
