The opening concert of the Styriarte Festival will present film music by Nino Rota, Howard Shore, John Barry, Michel Legrand, Klaus Badelt, John Williams, Lalo Schifrin among others, from the following films:

When film composers write music for dangerous liaisons, you can feel it sizzle, both on the screen and over the loudspeakers. Following the motto “sex sells,” film music from Hollywood opens this year’s Styriarte programme—preferably in the unbeatable combination of “sex and crime”. When Don Vito Corleone plots his diabolical schemes in The Godfather, he also leaves a trail of blood when it comes to love—set to music in an unforgettable way by Nino Rota. We all know that James Bond can’t say no to beautiful women. Flirting with a Bond girl may turn out to be lethal, but that makes it all the more alluring, especially in Goldfinger, the classic James Bond film with Sean Connery. John Barry received a Gold Record for his soundtrack; Shirley Bassey sang the title song. Tom Cruise can also tell you a thing or two about dangerous love under the cover of the Secret Service. For his Mission Impossible, U2 had to rewrite an old TV melody: Lalo Schifrin’s original title for an American TV series named “Mission: Impossible”. Stories upon stories, one more dangerous than the next, against the backdrop of music everyone knows.
